All Aboard The Camel Train

‘Nobbanner’

As usual, we decided to do something a little different while in Morocco, we booked to go on a short camel ride into the Agafay desert.

After a pickup from the hotel and a short ride to pickup other guests, we arrived at what could really be described as a ‘side of the road with palm trees’. 😂

So, after playing dress up with the locals, being wrapped up and tucked in and assigned our steeds, we hopped aboard and tried to get a couple of photos while everyone else got sorted.

Then, without any particular warning, the first camel in our little train stuck its backside high in the air like it’s at a nightclub and 21 again, practically throwing the poor woman head first over it’s head, before it sent her the other way while it got it’s front legs in the right place.

However, as that one was the leader, all the others followed suit without anyone warning to us that would happen.

So, suddenly I’m holding on for dear life with one hand, while trying to not throw my phone over my shoulder into all the camel dung with the other, we were up.

Once upright and semi stable again, we headed off on our little adventure into the unknown, where we started to relax and literally enjoy the ride.

After about twenty minutes, we arrived at a small collection of buildings, where we were asked to hold on tight (now they tell us) as the camels practically nose dived into the dirt, before they knealt down and we dismounted, at this point, we probably looked like bo legged versions of John Wayne after a six day ride through hostile territory.

We were then directed into large tent with seating all around and amazing colours and patterns inside, we were then offered a hot mint tea and some star shaped biscuits which were all lovely… thirsty work riding camels you know. 😂

Mint Tea’s After Our Short Camel Ride

Once we were a little more rested and refreshed, we headed back out to our new found friends and were ready to hit the road again.

As each of the camels were tied to each other, when one moved, the next one did and so on, as such, the head of my poor camel (that had to carry my fat bottom), called ‘nob-a-ner’, was pretty close to Jánine’s lovely bottom… so after the initial getting to know you stage, where Jánine looked a little nervous with its eating, biting and spitting end so close to her, she made friends and was stroking my camels head most of the way back to the camp saying ‘you’re coming home with us!’. 😲 ra row!, I should have let her have a dog!

Jánine Making Friends

After arriving safely back at our starting point and saying goodbye to our new friends, we headed back to the hotel for a proper drink following by the conversation of how would we kidnap the camel and get him home.

Yet another good day out and experience to remember, definitely a worthwhile and enjoyable trip.
