Farewell Cape Verde

A sad farewell to Cape Verde, our home for the last week, back to good old England.

We’ll have to cook for ourselves, clear and wash our own pots and pans, fetch our own drinks, make our bed after we get up, clean our room / house, get up and go to work and come home again in the dark, AND… certainly no bucks fizz for breakfast. 😭 What were we thinking!?

Jánine’s Happy Again

This little tale comes from our gourmet restaurant booking where we were to have a typical Cape Verdean meal.

Since being in Cape Verde, Jánine hasn’t found a dessert she likes, and if you know Jánine, you’ll know this is no small thing 😭 tears before bedtime and all that. Lol

So as usual with us, we check out what the dessert offerings are before starting our attack run on everything else.

There were a couple of possible targets identified from our recon., but you never quite know till the moment you destroy it.

So after sampling the candidates, it appears one of the desserts ticked all Jánine’s boxes, well one really… sickly sweet with a ton of sugar.

So as we’re eating our meal the conversation turns to how do we get a batch of the amazing dessert back to our room without being seen?

After getting our fill and finishing the lovely meal, I came up with a plan… finish my drink, then simply fill the glass with the amazing white chocolate / coconut goodness that was the holy grail of desserts, then while the waiters / waitresses weren’t looking…do a runner with our illgotten gains. 😉

Mission successful!

Once we were back in the room, I’m then told we can’t have the maid in till it’s all gone as she’ll find out what we’ve done.

By the following morning, all evidence was gone…like a magic trick! Ta da! It’s safe for the maid to enter again.

The only problem left, is how do I persuade Jánine to not barge in there again tomorrow night with a balaclava and a celery stick shouting it’s a stick up!?

Update: the following night, I managed to brazenly walk into the restaurant (which we weren’t booked to eat in) and fill a plate of the same chocolatey goodness just for my daring. ❤️

Sunset Dinner / Morabeza Beach Bar

We only booked one trip while in Cape Verde, figured we’re after the downtime more than the action or adventure for a change.

The trip was a sunset dinner at the Morabeza beach bar in Cape Verde with an african show.

We seem to keep stumbling upon the establishments that sell alcohol for some reason. 🤔 😁

The drinks we (I chose before I try to pass blame) were a little on the sour side, a caipirhana and a strawberry cocktail which I thought would be like a strawberry daiquiri.

Unfortunately, all the lemon, lime and the small teaspoon of sugar didn’t help! Jánine came up with the plan to put a straw in each and suck them both at the same time, thus offsetting the very sour one with the slightly less sour strawberry one.

The sunset did look amazing! Pretty romantic if you ask me.

And here’s a couple of shots of the African show…

We would definitely recommend the beach bar, the food was great, the staff were amazing and attentive, location fantastic, what more could you ask for.

Breakfast Anyone?

Went down for breakfast this morning and noticed someone handing out glasses after a loud pop…ooh, that sounds like something we’ll like….yes please!

After the second trip up where we pretended we didn’t know each other so we could get two glasses or one for us and one for our partner. 😉 …always thinking!

The photo above was from the second trip up.
