La Rochelle

Decided to go and see La Rochelle yesterday, it was a long drive from where we were (where Jánine was happy to stay, sit and read), but I figured it was in the right direction and I needed a better data signal to blog with and I had the itch to go see something else… big mistake!

Found a site on Google to stay at, eventually got there to find they were full, they suggested another site which was a way away and sounded like aires and not a proper campsite.

At this point I felt Jánine wasn’t very happy with me at all for taking her away from a lovely site she liked, to drive for many hours, to still not have anywhere to stay.

After a few long silences and more googling, we decided to head to somewhere else further north.  Jánine made a comment about us going north to just come south again tomorrow.  At this point I didn’t really care where we went, so I pulled over and asked the question… where to then?

It was around now I realised the fuel gauge had dropped somewhat from my last inspection and needed attention, bear in mind over here you might not see a petrol station all day while driving these small villages and towns.

We eventually happened upon a sign on a lamppost that said camping and figured what the heck! What have we got to lose!

The site was pretty basic, but we were just glad of somewhere to stay and hookup the electric for the night, and a windy night it was too…at one point I did wonder if there was another pitch not so close to the trees. 🤔

So after filling our bellies and having a stiff drink each, we relaxed a little and tried to come up with a much better plan for tomorrow.  At one point we were contemplating going to Spain, which was apparently 6.5 hours drive away (longer in Doris though), which was dropped after the long drive already.

Eventually we found a site a little further south that sounded okay, on the coast and only 30 mins away!…done!

Headed to the new site this morning via a petrol station (phew) only to find the site shut!…nobody there, metal gates over all the buildings, padlocked gates kind of shut. …doh!

Looked for yet another site…found a site around 20 mins away which might just work.

Got there about 11 to be told we need to come back in one hour, so parked up across the road and read our books for a bit.

Went back to reception at 12 to be told we had it all wrong…turns out she meant come back at one, not back IN one. 😉

…read a little longer…till we spotted all the camping cars (motorhomes) lining up down the street, then we ran to reception to make sure we were right at the front! I don’t think we could lose another pitch…not again, not today.

Thankfully we got one for two nights, but we would need to swap pitches tomorrow… sorted!

At least we don’t have to worry about the next pitch for a day or so. lol

We were told there would be days like these… hopefully that was the last of them.  😁

    1. Yes it would…plus think we need to invest in the French passion book too…free night in a vineyard where you can get a tour and purchase some of the goodies after sampling 😁🍾🍾🍇🧀

  1. Sounds like you had quite a day (or two).
It’s all new to you both and you’re sometimes thinking on your feet means you’ll stub your toe from time to time.

With deep breaths, stiff drinks and big hugs – you’ll always be fine 😉
